Exhibition 'Collected from the Heart'
From 2 November, the exhibition Collected from the Heart will open in the gallery wing of the Maastricht Museum. This exhibition showcases around ninety paintings from 19th- and 20th-century artists, representing the "Maastricht School."
For the first time, this remarkable private collection is being displayed to the public, featuring works by artists such as Charles Eyck, Guillaume Eberhard, and Henri Jonas. Each piece highlights a different aspect of Maastricht: from cityscapes and natural scenes to portraits and cultural snapshots, creating an artistic journey through Maastricht in the past century.
A Look Behind the Scenes
This special exhibition offers more than just art; it provides a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the museum. The gallery is set up like a storage depot, with paintings hanging on large racks, similar to the storage spaces in museums. Here, you can discover how artworks are preserved, catalogued, and cared for.
On select days each week, researcher Louise will be on site, working on the registration and photography of the pieces while engaging with visitors to gather stories and perspectives. This way, you can contribute to enriching the understanding of these artworks.
Be Part of the Story
This exhibition invites you to actively contribute to the research on these artworks. Do you have stories, memories, or insights about the pieces or their creators? Or perhaps you even own a piece of Maastricht’s art?
On Thursday, 23 November, or Sunday, 10 December, bring your artwork to the Maastricht Museum and, with our experts, discover more about your piece during the activity Treasure or Imitation? Your contribution helps us explore the cultural value of this collection for Maastricht, ensuring that the stories behind the artworks are not lost. Who knows—you might even have a true treasure (or a wonderful story) at home!
