Kapitein Willem Norwood en het beleg van Maastricht

In 1673, during the siege of Maastricht by the French king Louis XIV, lieutenant Willem Norwood died. In the battles around June 25, more than two thousand soldiers on the French side likely perished or were wounded. Willem Norwood, as an officer on the State's side, defended the fortress of Maastricht and was killed in the same assault in which d'Artagnan lost his life on the French side, on June 24 or 25, 1673.

Willem Norwood's estate inventory, compiled after his passing, and his will provide insight into his life as an English Dutchman in the State's army.
