Dutch lecture: Vauban, much more than the conqueror of Maastricht
Presented by Stichting Maastricht Vestingstad
Tuesday 3 October | 4.00 - 5.00 p.m. | Centre Céramique
The conquest of Maastricht in June 1673 was attributed to the Sun King, but it was Vauban who was the mastermind behind it.
This instantly made the 40-year-old engineer famous. While during his lifetime he was primarily known as a conqueror of fortresses, he is now remembered as their builder. The lecture delves into the career of this remarkable man and unveils Vauban's thoughts on strategy, landscape, and urban planning through numerous photographs and drawings. Talent for conquest goes hand in hand with that for defense.
